The three-mile-long Saunton Sands sits just beyond North Devon’s two other famous beaches, Croyde and Woolacombe, and is backed by the spectacular Braunton Burrows, a UNESCO designated Biosphere Reserve, and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
North Devon has long been a mecca for British surfers, drawn to the variety of waves that break along its golden beaches. This stretch of coast, including Saunton Sands, is now a World Surfing Reserve, one of just 12 such places on the planet.
Saunton and the local area is ideal for partaking in many varied activities, including several water-sports, golf and horse riding. There really is something for everyone, and most of them can be enjoyed without getting in the car.

Here at Surf Saunton we have collaborated with some of the finest yoga teachers in the South West. Headed up by Sian Marie @yogawithsianmarie and Megan Alice @methodsofmeg we now provide yoga classes on the beach here at Saunton.
Our instructors at Surf Saunton teach a style of yoga called Vinyasa Flow, this practice links conscious breathing and fluid movement; conscious breathing to calm the mind, and asanas (yoga postures) linked by fluid movement to energise your body.
Each class will include, meditation, breath work, a wide variety of asanas and a Shavasana (a lying down, relaxing meditation). Our classes encourage you to connect with your breath, whilst strengthening the body and improving your flexibility and balance.
Classes are suitable for all ages and abilities, modifications will be offered where they are needed. Please make your instructor aware of any current injuries you have at the start of the session. (If below age of 12 please get in contact prior to booking).

Woolacombe Riding Stables nestles in the valley of Woolacombe. We are a British Horse Society and Pony Club approved equestrian centre. We were the first Riding stables in North Devon to become Clubmark accredited. Apart from the staff having their BHS qualifications, all full time staff have emergency first aid and child protection certificates.
We enjoy teaching and introducing adults and children to the joys of horse riding. All our pupils are encouraged to complete their Pony Club and British Horse Society achievement certificates in stable management and horse riding.
The stables are situated at Eastacott Farm and visitors can ride over 200 acres of countryside as well as additional rides across the sand dunes at Woolacombe and over the 3 mile long stretch of golden sandy beach.
The South West Coastal path runs along every beach in the South West of England. In fact, the Chalet, Saunton is located right on the path. With 630 miles of superb coastline to be explored there is so much to see.
With 32 miles of dedicated cycle paths all the way from Braunton to Meeth with Barnstaple, Instow, Bideford and Great Torrington in between, the Tarka Cycle Trail follows the journey of Tarka the Otter in the classic tale written by Henry Williamson.
The National Trust’s Arlington Court is an intriguing Regency house and collection of horse-drawn vehicles, set in a picturesque gardens.
Lundy Island lies just off the coast of North Devon. The three-mile long island can be seen from the Chalet on clear days and is well worth a visit. A wealth of peaceful and unspoiled nature and wild life can be the perfect getaway from the busy crowds in the height of summer.
If you’re on the hunt for Wild Life then hopping on to the Ilfracombe Princess will give you the chance to see Dolphins, Porpoises and Seals.

Chef/proprietor Phil Wild and wife, Arden, took over this village Inn in November 2021 and following major renovations, the couple have recently re-opened its doors.
Phil is an enthusiastic and dedicated supporter of local suppliers, and this is reflected on his menus where you’ll find local game, meat, fruit and vegetables and fresh fish delivered daily.
Phil’s long and illustrious career as a chef includes working in iconic British inns and hotels, having started his career at the Michelin-starred Carlton Elite Hotel in Switzerland. He achieved numerous accolades in country house hotels including the famous Sir Christopher Wren’s House Hotel, Windsor where he was Executive Head Chef for 10 years. Phil then moved to Marbella where he ran his own restaurant for 3 years before returning to the UK to run his own successful pub/restaurant which was awarded 9/10 for food by the Daily Telegraph.
The Wilds’ have restored the Inn to its rightful place at the centre of the community offering a relaxing place to meet, eat and drink, in the beautiful North Devon countryside.
After a successful career Phil is now returning home to where it all started.
